tea and cakes at the world-famous Betty’s café [map] to the Mediterranean cuisine of Tapas Taberna [map],
in Walmgate, you’ll be spoilt for choice with the
quality and range of eateries on offer.
If you want to try some traditional Yorkshire fayre visit Russells [map] for one of the best carveries in the region.
This is the essential place to try Yorkshire puddings
and roast beef as well as an extensive wine list,
and all at a very reasonable price. Russells has two restaurants
located at Coppergate and Stonegate.
Looking for somewhere central but a little bit different?
Check out the much talked about Blue Bicycle Restaurant [map] based at Fossgate overlooking the river. This restaurant
is particularly recommended for its fresh fish dishes
and its friendly staff.
A few minutes away from the city centre is the district
of Clifton, home to a selection of quieter venues. One
of the most popular pub restaurants is The Dormouse [map],
a great place to go for a wide selection of world cuisine
in a country pub setting, and even better when the sun
is shining for some alfresco dining.
If you’re looking for somewhere special the Beechwood
Close Hotel [map] has a large traditional restaurant serving a range of home cooked meals and a wide selection
of draughts beers, lager and malt whiskies.
Excellent cuisine is to be had at The Lime House Restaurant [map],
located at Goodramgate. This award-winning restaurant is just a few minutes from York’s many tourist
attractions and has an impressive reputation. Aside from
famous brasserie lunches that offer such delicacies as
smoked salmon and wild mushroom and onion tart, there’s
also a fantastic menu of evening meals and mouth-watering
desserts, and if none of that appeals or you’re
on a particular diet such as gluten-free the chef will
create a meal just for you.
For those in search of the exotic, York has a range of
Indian and Chinese restaurants. One of the area's top
takeaways is the Mogul Indian Restaurant [map], located
at Toft Green. Whether you like your curry hot or prefer
a mild Korma the Mogul caters for a range of tastes right
down to the most delicate.
