GO Dance in Edinburgh

Dance in Edinburgh Every year the Edinburgh Fringe Festival brings together some of the best dancers and dance companies in the world who perform to the masses in some of the city's unlikelier venues.

August proves an exciting time for dance in Edinburgh but if you’re planning your visit at a different time of year there’s still a large dance culture out there.

If you dream of being able to tango with the best of them there’s a wide variety of salsa and Latin American tuition in Edinburgh. Places such as Cuba Norte [map] on Morrison Street and The Counting House [map] on West Nicolson Street host regular salsa evenings for those who already know how to dance and those just learning.

Perhaps swing is your thing. If you like to do your jiving to the sounds of Sinatra and Dean Martin you’ll be pleased, and probably a little surprised, to discover that Edinburgh has a huge swing club scene. With a range of instructors in the city, and clubs handed over regularly to bobby-soxers Edinburgh really has embraced a new dance craze. The Edinburgh Swing Society’s headquarters are located on Montgomery Street.

The Edinburgh Festival Theatre is home to some of the very best Scottish dance including The Scottish Ballet who regularly feature in this huge venue on Nicolson Street.

There’s a veritable feast of dance on offer at The Brunton Theatre [map], Musselburgh. From old-style variety hall touring productions to youth-based showcases, this is the perfect venue to take the whole family for an evening of entertainment.

The very fashionable Grassmarket area of Edinburgh is where the equally fashionable Dance Base [map] is located. Dance Base is home to The National Centre for Dance. There are four studios here covering a variety of performances and workshops. From African contemporary dancing to 1980s inspired body-popping, join in or sit back and experience the very best dance that Edinburgh has to offer.
