GO Theatre In East London

Theatre in East London With its own unique creative vibe the performing arts on the east side of London are as dynamic and pioneering as ever.

With reputedly the highest concentration of artists than any borough in Europe, it is no wonder that Hackney leads the way for this area’s stage experiences.

The legendary Hackney Empire [map] is the mecca for those wanting to enjoy popular dramatic and musical performances from Shakespeare to Andrew Lloyd Webber, in the East End.

Since its closure last year thanks to a £15 million modernisation, the Empire is striking back with a wide range of pop culture entertainments from April through to December.

For contemporary work look to Hackney’s Arcola theatre [map]. This year the Arcola directors have set themselves the task of giving air to ’fresh and urgent’ voices. So this is where you’ll find the new talent supported by artists and directors that are passionate about their art form.

In the past the Theatre Royal [map] Stratford East has been dubbed ‘a pioneering theatre’ by the New York Times. And with performances this year including a ska musical, you can imagine the label still fits.

The newest performing arts centre in east London is the Stratford Circus [map], and has entertainment for all ages. While the Half Moon Young People’s Theatre [map] has performances pitched for maximum entertainment for the children in your life.
