GO Restaurants In Durham

Restaurants in Durham With a huge range of restaurants and cafés to choose from, you should never go hungry in Durham no matter what you like eating.

For a gourmet experience check out the swanky Hide Café-Bar and Grill [map] on Saddler Street, which is one of the most popular restaurants in town.

Alternatively you could head for one the city's top hotels, such as the Durham Marriott [map], which has two restaurants, the more informal Bowes and the award-winning County restaurant.

If you’re looking for international cuisine then as you wander around the city centre you’ll soon come to realise there is plenty of choice. One restaurant definitely worth seeking out is the little Mexican joint, Rock ‘n’ Amigos [map], on Claypath, which serves excellent fajitas in a buzzing atmosphere.

There are also plenty of Chinese, Italian and Indian restaurants dotted around the city centre, but one of the best eateries in the North East is undoubtedly Durham’s only Thai restaurant, Numjai’s [map]. Located on Millburngate overlooking the river and the cathedral, this restaurant brings the finest selection of Thai and Japanese cuisine to the city.

If you’re on a tight budget then fear not, there are a number of eating establishments in Durham that offer cheap and cheerful food or special offers.

Right in the heart of the city centre is Lau’s Buffet King [map] restaurant, which offers an 'all you can eat' Chinese menu and is a firm favourite with university students and locals alike.

Located on Saddler Street, Pizza Express [map] is another well priced eatery with a good reputation.

For those looking to grab a bite to eat during a busy day, there are plenty of cafés and sandwich bars around the main shopping and tourist areas, including Cafe Continental [map] on Silver Street.

You can also get tasty snacks or full meals from Whispers Coffee Lounge [map] situated in a quiet courtyard just off the main North Road.

If you can’t be bothered going out why not get a takeaway delivered to your door instead. Among the best in town are My Kinda Pizza [map] on North Road, which has the usual choice of pizzas, and the Castle Tandoori [map] on Allergate, which offers a good choice of curries.

And, as you would expect in an English city, Durham also has its share of fast food restaurants, including McDonalds, Burger King and Pizza Hut.
