Comedy In Durham
Until recently you’d have to head out of Durham
for a night of comedy but now you can laugh your socks
off at top funnymen and women from London’s Comedy
Dubbed the original and best know comedy club in Britain,
the Comedy Store now has a residency at the Gala
Theatre [map] which is part of Durham’s
With monthly Sunday night slots, the club brings regular
comedians from their London and Manchester venues to the
historic capital of the North. Add to this a changing
line up every visit, drinks promotions in the bar
and a fully licensed auditorium, Sunday nights in Durham
have never been so much fun.
But if once a month is not enough to satisfy your comedy
craving then you could always head to one of Durham’s
neighbouring towns and cities for more comedy clubs.
In Stockton-on-Tees, about 20 miles away, you’ll
find Arc on Dovecote Street [map] which offers
a huge variety from established cutting-edge circuit comedians
along with up-and-coming stars.
Sunderland also provides comedy at The Royalty [map] pub on Chester Road, close to the university buildings,
which plays host to Get Serious.
Alternatively you could head up to Newcastle to the Hyena
Comedy Café [map] on Leazes Lane, a great
venue run by Newcastle Comedy Festival folk, which has
top national and international acts on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.
