GO Places in Cardiff

Places to Go in Cardiff You’ll never be short of places to visit in Cardiff as the city is packed full of everything from historic castles and imposing buildings to beautiful parks and scenic waterways.

Overlooking the city are a number of castles that provide a great insight into Cardiff’s past, including the fairytale-like Castell Coch [map] and Cardiff Castle [map], which dates back some 2000 years. Then around seven miles north of the city centre is Caerphilly Castle [map] , one of the largest castles in Britain and famous for its leaning tower.

There are also plenty of museums to visit such as the National Museum of Wales [map] and the Museum of Welsh Life [map], which both delve into Wales’ colourful past.

Cardiff is home to two cathedrals, the small but impressive Llandaff Cathedral [map], which dates back to the Norman times, and Roman Catholic St David's [map], which boasts a magnificent organ.

Other historical buildings well worth a visit include the Pier Head Building on Cardiff Bay, the neo-classical City Hall [map] and the many Edwardian and Victorian arcades in the city centre.

For water lovers there is the newly redeveloped Cardiff Bay [map] with its cruises, shops, restaurants and bars, and the River Taff, which runs past many of the city’s landmarks.

If you fancy being scared stiff then why not take the Creepy Cardiff Ghost Tour, which uncovers the city’s haunted buildings and most ghoulish stories.

Sports fans can experience the drama of a big game and even sit in the Royal Box at the Millennium Stadium [map], sometimes know as "the best rugby venue in the world".

Then, after all that sightseeing, you can relax in the sunshine at Cathays Park [map], which is a wonderful combination of beautiful lawns and impressive buildings and statues.
