GO Gay Bars in Cardiff

Gay bars in Cardiff As Europe’s youngest capital, Cardiff still seems to be finding its feet in the gay community, although it does have a few bars and clubs dotted around the city centre.

Why not start your evening at the city’s oldest gay bar, King’s Cross [map], which occupies a prime corner spot in the cafe quarter on Caroline Street. Comprising of a large bar area with a traditional pub feel, this is undoubtedly Cardiff’s most openly gay bar, and it has a party or live music on every week.

Just across the road from here is the Golden Cross [map], an old-fashioned pub, which also boasts wholesome home-cooked grub throughout the day – especially on a Sunday when things get all silly and camp.

If you’re looking for a venue that’s a little trendier than the ones mentioned above then head to Out Bar on Bute Terrace, which has enjoyed a recent surge in popularity. The bar is furnished with funky furniture featuring lots of animal prints and spiky rubber cushions, and the toilets have huge mirrors and fluorescent animal print toilet seats.
Wednesday's student nights are the most popular, along with the Sunday cabarets and food is available from midday-8:00pm Wednesday to Sunday.

For a wild and eccentric night on the town get along to Minsky's cabaret bar [map], which features top drag acts at weekends who perform on the amazing stage bang in the middle of the bar!

Situated on Charles Street the Exit Bar [map] is a small pub-cum-club that has been open for more than eight years and has built up a regular clientele as well as attracting new visitors. This venue boasts two bars, a dance floor and live music with a friendly, attitude-free atmosphere. Exit bar is open until 2am every night except Sunday.

Just opposite here you’ll find Club X [map], Wales’ biggest gay club. It has two separate dance floors offering a range of music including R&B and classic pop. It has recently been renovated and offers one of the best sound systems in Cardiff, state-of-the art lighting and a host of features, from a pool room to a terrace garden.

Connected to Club X is Bar XS [map], which normally acts as an intimate pre-club spot throughout the week but also opens during club hours on Saturdays as a spill-over chill-out zone.
