GO Comedy In Cardiff

Comedy in Cardiff It may not share the same reputation for comedy as its Scottish counterpart, but when it comes to tickling your funny bone the Welsh capital will not disappoint. The city has a number of comedy venues dotted around the city centre, which play host to some of the best British comedians around.

Situated on the impressive Mermaid Quay, the aptly named Glee Club [map] is an ultra-modern venue offering a great night of live comedy complete with tasty food and a good bar. During the week the entertainment includes a compère and three stand-up acts, while the weekend shows are followed by a disco that lasts well into the early hours.

Cardiff's other well-known dedicated comedy club is Jongleurs [map] , which occupies one of the city's most prestigious sites within the Millennium Plaza next to the Millennium Stadium. Part of a national chain, this club has a relaxing, uncluttered modern interior and state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment. It is also close to the train and bus stations. And as well as great entertainment by some of the top names on the comedy circuit, Jongleurs also has an impressive menu and is open until 2am on weekends.

If you want to see the funny stars of tomorrow today, then check out The Wharf [map] on Schooner Way, which offers a Thursday night gig organised by comedy fans for comedy fans. The acts get a lot more freedom to perform than they do at other clubs in the city and they do not hesitate to interact with the audience or try new material. It is not unusual for a comic to carry on well beyond the time expected of them and the mix of traditional and new material creates a vibrant atmosphere to rival any comedy club.

Other venues that host comedy nights include St David’s Hall [map] and Cardiff International Arena [map], which both have regular visits from touring comedians.
