GO Budget Accommodation in Cardiff

Budget Accommodation in Cardiff If you’re looking for a city break that’s cheap as chips then you’re in luck because staying in Cardiff doesn’t have to cost a fortune. The city has plenty of budget accommodation on offer so you can save your money for the sightseeing and nightlife.

For starters there is Austin’s Hotel [map], which is located just 300 metres from Cardiff Castle and overlooks the River Taff that runs through the city. This hotel offers all the home comforts you’d expect from a guesthouse, for some of the cheapest prices around. The city centre is just a few minutes walk away, and the bus and train stations are also close by.

Also situated very close to the city centre is the Clare Court Hotel [map], which is always a popular choice for visitors on a budget. The hotel provides cheap, quality accommodation that is close to the bus and train stations, the Millennium Stadium, and all the main attractions of the city centre and Cardiff Bay.

A good way to save money if you’re travelling in groups or as a family is to opt for a hotel that charges per room and not per person. One such hotel is the Travel Inn [map] on the beautiful Cardiff Bay, which is perfectly located just a few minutes walk from both the city centre and the trendy new waterfront development. The prices are among the cheapest you'll get for such a central location, particularly if you're travelling as part of a group because you are charged for the room regardless of how many people you squeeze into it.

If you are really watching your pennies then why not head to one of the city’s hostels, which offer clean basic accommodation at very cheap rates.

Cardiff Backpackers Hostel [map] is a firm favourite among travellers and tourists as it is only a stone’s throw from the city centre and offers a wide range of added extras. As well as the usual dormitory-style bedrooms there are a few private rooms. The hostel also provides Internet access, video library, bike rental, roof garden, pool table and on site café and bar. There is also a fully equipped kitchen for guests to use at their leisure, with free tea and coffee all day, and a coin-operated launderette.

Situated in the Roath Park area just two miles from the city centre you'll find the YHA Hostel [map], a large, purpose-built, red-brick building that offers all the usual hostel-style facilities.

For those who don’t mind the outdoors you can save a lot of money by pitching your tent at one of the many campsites near Cardiff. The Cardiff Caravan Park [map] at Pontcanna Fields is the closest campsite to the city centre, located close to the Sophia Garden cricket ground. It is well equipped and open all year round.
