City Travel in Bristol

City Travel in Bristol Many of Bristol’s city centre buses are run by First Travel, which operates 38 designated routes in the area.

Most of the buses leave from a central point at Bristol Bus Station [map], Marlborough Street, and wind their way to the far corners of Bristol. This includes “nightflyers” that run until the early hours of the morning.

National Express coaches leave from a stop close to the Bus Station at The Haymarket or Bond Street.

Bringing your car into Bristol city centre doesn’t present the same kind of problems as driving into some major UK cities, but you’ll still have to face several one-way systems and struggle to find a parking spot.

There is currently a park and ride system in operation at Long Ashton. Here drivers can leave their vehicles in a secure environment and hop on the bus for a small fee (children under 16 travel free). They’ll then be taken into the heart of Bristol. The service operates from Monday to Saturday between 7:00am and 7:00pm weekdays and between 8:00am and 7:00pm on Saturdays. On Thursdays the service runs until 8:20pm for late night shopping in Broadmead.

Cycling is becoming more and more popular in Bristol, and is a great way to admire all that the city has to offer without adding to the congestion and pollution that has dogged the area in recent years.

Cycle paths are still in their infancy around the city centre but if you’re looking for a leisurely ride out you’ll find that the Bath – Bristol Cycle Path is a great way to spend a sunny day. Running along the course of the old Bristol-Bath railway, the track takes you through beautiful countryside, past a working steam railway, into the suburbs of Bristol, through a tunnel and into the inner city.
